Paging Ellen

It's been a year and three months (to the day) since I last did a portrait sketch like this.

The subject this time is Ellen Page, of X3/Juno/Whip It! fame.

Done in about 90 minutes. 3B and 6B pencils.

I'm happier with how this one came out than many of the previous ones, though it's far from perfect. It took me forever to get the proportions "right" (which are still far from actually being right). I resorted to scanning it in stages to compare to the photograph and see where I was going wrong. The mouth and nose came together fairly quickly, but I kept on drawing the eyes much too high. I also extended the jaw at one point because it looked too short, but I ended up revising it back to where I had originally placed it.

I had to resist the urge to run the image through the liquify filter to fix it. Must do it right, damnit! The left half of the face and the right half of the face, in isolation, look alright, but together they just look screwy.
